Claudette Pace

Claudette Pace with husband David and daughter Kristina

1. Claudette and David how long have you been married?
6 years

2. How many children do you have?
1 girl

3. What are their names and how old are they?
Kristina – 5 years old

4. What was the first thought that came to mind and the first sensation that you felt when you both knew that you were pregnant?
David – Great joy and eagerness to tell our family & friends.
Claudette – we both  wanted a child more than anything else in the world.

5. How was the pregnancy for you Claudette?
No problems really. Started off with morning sickness … actually I always felt sick while I was cooking on my TV programme!

6. David how did you involve yourself during the pregnancy?
Since we always share the house work, pregnancy wasn’t a big change really.

7. What are the three adjectives which in your experience best describe parenthood?
Beautiful, intriguing, but tough (especially today)

8. Can you mention something that your kid does which you will never forget even as the years pass by? (ie. a gesture, a word they say, a situation that took place)
Her giggle – we actually recorded it!

9. How do you manage to cope with your work and a child?
We work together from home so managing a child is much easier. When we have difficulty we always find our parents to support us.

10. How was your relationship effected with the birth of Kristina?
She takes number one in our list of importance. Before we take any decision we always consider how she will be effected. We have given up on a few things but that’s part of parenthood. Still there are times which are only for US – our quality time.

11. Do you plan to have more children in the future?
No plans.

12. What do you wish for your kid in her future?
Happiness and lots of love.

13. Do you have any tips or advice that you can give to other parents to be, as regards their experience as parents?
Whatever you do always remember that there are no perfect parents, but make sure you don’t regret your decisions – your children will forgive you but you will never forgive yourself! Be ready to change your priorities.

14. From your experience as parents, how would you improve children's welfare/rights in our country?
Less stress on schooling, more sports and entertainment for children.
